here is the recipe for Arepas Colombianas with Hogao/Colombian Cooking Experience

  • Ingredients
  • About 12 Arepas
  • Vegetable oil
  • 1/2 cups of precooked cornmeal
  • 1/2 cups of warm water
  • 1 tablespoon of butter
  • 1/3 cup of crumbled queso fresco
  • A pinch of salt
  1. Instructions
  2. Combine the cornmeal, warm water, cheese, butter and salt, mixing thoroughly. Then, let mixture stand for five minutes.
  3. Knead with your hands for about 3 minutes moistening your hands with water as you work
  4. Form 12 small balls with the dough. Place each ball between your palms, pressing to form a thick patty
  5. Heat oil in a large nonstick skillet over medium heat. After, fry the arepas, and don´t forget turn over  3 minutes per side until golden.
  6. Finally, drain on paper towels.
  7. You can serve with hogao. Also, try it with guacamole, chimichurri or ají.
